The first step is to fill out an application for disability benefits.  There are different applications depending on which program you qualify for.  With the applicaiton, you also fill out an adult disability report where you provide the contact information for doctors and information about your prior work.

At the initial level Social Security will order your medical records based off of the adult disaiblity report you fill out.

It takes, on average, four to five months to hear back from Social Security on your appplication.  Approximatley 60 to 65% of people are initially denied benefits.  If you are denied benefits you have 60 days to file an appeal. The appeal is called a Request for Reconsideration.

We believe it is very important that you get legal advice when filling out these documents, since how you fill them out can have a major impact on your claim.
