Disabled Widow(er)'s Benefits ("DWB")

If you are a disabled widow(er) age 50 or older, you may be able to receive benefits based off how much your spouse (or former spouse) paid into Social Security, regardless of whether you have worked yourself.

Generally, to be eligible you must be found disabled within 7 years of your spouse's passing.  Your spouse would also have needed to have paid enough Social Security taxes to have been fully insured for disability benefits.

You may be entitled to benefits even if you were divorced from your spouse when s/he passed.
